Using PokerTracker to identify typical statistics in six max limit

Online poker these days is a far cry from the online poker world that I came into just ten years ago. The online scene is dominated by statistics and data accumulation is the hallmark of a successful player. The best players in the world use data in the most creative ways possible and if you want to make your mark in online poker these days then you are simply going to have to get PokerTracker which is the industry leading tracker program at this time.

I will be writing a series of articles on specific player types using PokerTracker data over the next few months and I want to start that off by looking at typical player types at six handed limit hold’em at the upper lower levels and middle stakes levels. These metrics are not set in stone and should not be treated as such.

ROCK:

The number of rocks will outnumber the number of outright fish or solid regulars and so rocks and typical players are what I want to concentrate on mainly in these opening articles. A good player will be attaining 30%+ VPIP and so your average rock will be at 25% and below. They may be playing several tables at once and so by sheer force of numbers, their ranges will contract accordingly. So rocks could be multi-tabling or they could be just tight players overall!

Their PFR percentage will not be too far short of their VPIP meaning that they tend to play hands well when they play them. The deciding line for a rock is that they simply do not play enough hands for their play to approach optimal. So good examples of rocks will be something like 25/20/1.6……22/14/1.7……23/18/1.9 and so on! You can begin to see the patterns with these metrics and if you can back this up with a good sample size then you have definitely found a rock when you see statistics of this nature. Their skill level can be quite high in some cases and some rocks can be very aggressive when they enter hands and so care needs to be taken as rocks can definitely differ hugely post flop in how they play.

Come and play poker at bwin and sample the action.
