Using PokerTracker to identify typical players in six max limit part 2
Following on from the last article and here I want to look at PokerTracker statistics for what I call “average” players in six handed limit hold’em play. In the last article we looked at rocks and their typical metrics. But often players do not fall into categories that easily define their tendencies because maniacs and rocks are easy to spot even after relatively small sample sizes. But Mr “Average” is sometimes more difficult to spot as in the short term they often do not fall into discernable patterns.
They will play too many hands otherwise they would be rocks but maniacs will play far more hands than “Mr Average” who populate the lower levels of play. Strong regulars will have a higher VPIP than rocks and will be somewhere within the 28-38% VPIP range. Sandwiched between the weak fish and the maniacs who simply play far too many hands and play them in different ways are the “average” players.
With metrics along the lines of 45/17/1.1……42/18/1.2…….46/14/1.2 then these players play too many hands but are not aggressive enough. Their philosophy is a mixture of confusion and a lack of education and technique. They fail to fight aggressively enough for the pots that they play and do not isolate enough and limp with hands that have poor equity given the number of players who are in the pot.
Primarily these are the main errors committed by “average” players. They are not weak fish although they could easily be players who are failing to beat their level or could be making a nominal earn rate with the help of rakeback. But it is clear that “average” players have the potential to be better players and they are further down the evolutionary road than outright fish. However they are “fish” in their own right to better players who are more aggressive and have more post flop skill.
