The Rules Of Texas Holdem
Texas Holdem is one of the many poker games that a lot of people enjoy playing.
The Pre-flop In Texas Holdem
Each person is dealt 1 card, then a second card. This is done clockwise, starting with the person to the left of the dealer. These cards must be dealt face down so that the other players cannot see them. There are actually rules about mis-deals whenever you are playing Texas Holdem at a casino.
The player to the left of the dealer will then place the “small blind,” the player to the left of them will place the “big blind” and the player to their left will start the betting. Once only 2 players are left, there are special rules that apply for the small and the big blinds: The small blind is posted by the dealer and the big blind by the other remaining player.
The Flop In Texas Holdem
Once all of the betting is done for the pre-flop, the dealer “burns” one card by dealing it face down. The next 3 community cards are then dealt face up. Players can use these cards with their hole cards to create their best hand and bet accordingly.
The Turn In Texas Holdem
The dealer burns another card and deals a fourth community card. Players can use this fourth card to create their best hand. There will then be a round of betting or a round of checking that takes place.
The River In Texas Holdem
The “river” is the final community card to be dealt. It is dealt after 1 card has been burned and it is the last opportunity for betting for this hand.
The Showdown In Texas Holdem
If there is more than 1 player left in the hand, all of the remaining players will show their cards starting in a clockwise direction from the dealer. Herein each remaining player uses the best 5 cards from a combination of their own 2 hole cards and the 5 community cards. If 2 or more players have the same best hand, then the pot will be split between them.
Folding In Texas Holdem
At any stage of a game, a player can “fold” their cards and leave the hand. Obviously if a player decides to do this, then they will not be able to win the hand and they will also lose any bets that they have made during the hand.
