Huck Seed: The 'Ice Man' of Poker

Huck Seed is surely the silent poker type. It seems you cannot force a word out of him but for some Poker action. His full name is Huckleberry and his full status in the Poker world is that of a World Champion and No-Limit Hold Em specialist. Huck plays lethal Poker that can work like silent poison on his rivals and it’s next to impossible to read his body language.

Hailing from Montana, Huck intended to take up electrical engineering and even decided to pursue his Mathematics skills at the California Institute of Technology after graduation. That was not to be for Huck as Poker beckoned and he ended up in the casinos of Nevada and California. It didn’t take time for Seed to realize that gambling was to be his career as he was winning regularly and sometimes winning big as well.

In his first WSOP event in 1990, Seed finished fourth in the Limit Hold Em and Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo events. Soon he was earning much more than he would have made as an engineer and there was no going back.

Huck’s first gold bracelet in the World Series of Poker event came in 1994 with more than $240,000 in winnings at the Pot-Limit Omaha event. In 1995, Huck entered the main event and finished 265. But that was not to be a disappointment as he came back to become the champion the very next year. At 27, Seed became one of the Poker legends!

Huck insists that at that time Poker was considered just a game for gamblers and did not enjoy the status it does today as a sport of skill and strategy. He says during the years he was winning you couldn’t even go around telling people that you were a Poker player for fear of a disdainful look but things started changing. Today, Huck cannot avoid being mobbed by fans.

Huck’s mathematics skills stand him in good stead and his mastery over his emotions is the additional qualification that has propelled him to the top of poker professionals list. Seed won much more in his initial years but is still considered a daunting rival to face. He’s won the 1998 Carnivale of Poker in Las Vegas championship event with $306,000, made it to the final table in the main event several times and in 2000 won his third gold bracelet in the Razz event, pocketing and $77,400. His fourth bracelet is from the Razz event in 2003.

His latest win has been in 2004 at the $135,000 Festa al Lago in Las Vegas. Often referred to as the ‘Ice Man’ Huck says the best way to play is to remain calm and relaxed and the more a Poker player relaxes the better his chances of using his focus and skill to win. Himself, Seed is a silent statuette of focus at the Poker table. Off the table, Seed is also known for making bizarre bets with his friends and other Poker Professionals. It is needless to add that he wins most of them!
