Learn poker strategies before risking real money
Just recently, I started playing texas holdem at the free money sections online at pokerstars. I actually had a fun time but I felt things weren't that realistic. It seemed that everything was not for real because there was no real money involved. There was no risk, so players never fold, as a result, there was no thrill at all.
I was just curious if there's something you could recommend to a player like me who is just starting and understands ...

Poker Games Without Real Money
I'm just curious if there are websites that offer poker games without real money. I wanted to try playing without risk. And by the way, what does freeroll mean? And what it is all about?
Thanks, Rico

Avoiding a Straight Flush
Hello, I would just like to ask a question. This is with regards to a funny situation that happened in one of my poker games.
A flop of Ac 5d 7d occurred and 5 players have seen it. I was holding Ad 3d and pleasingly have bet 1/3 the pot then. All but one folds.
Then, the turn is 4d. I have stumbled on my flush and ensured to trap. With assurance he placed a small bet which eventually triggered ...

Moving on to a "Better" Place
Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest thanks for creating a site like this one. I really find this site helpful.
Before I lay down my questions, I would like first to introduce myself briefly. I'm 37 years old and with no kids. As of the moment, I'm living in Maryland and about to become separated. Even before, I can live anywhere as long as the place is close to any major airport because of my job. I've ...

Tired of Paying Taxes
Hello,
I would like to ask something, but I don't know if it would be a sensible question as it has nothing to do with strategies or tactics.
Right now I'm in college and been into summer jobs for some time. Ever since I tried summer jobs, I have never made over 10K. But just recently, I am making a bit more than that by playing in 5/10 and 10/20 NL tables online. I find it really great, but I don't know ...

Does Luck Intervene?
I don't know if you can still remember the email I sent you about a month ago about a situation where i flopped the nut straight, have my opponent all-in, and by a miracle card, got rivered. In my email, I was asking you if I you think I played too sharply and that results may have sided on my part if I bet less. Then you answered back that it was okay to give it all when the nuts ...

Tracking and Statistics Systems
For some time now, I've been referring to a poker tracker to check on something on my online games but unfortunately, I find it hard to interpret the data because of limited description provided.
Just like for an instance, one of the statistics I can view is the % of times I played a certain hand. However, most good players do not play every hand, but just instead select which hands to play based on certain things like position, pre-flop card ...

Tipping the Dealers in Holdem Cash Games and Tournaments
Something about tipping the dealers in holdem cash games and tournaments has been bothering my mind. I typically tip a dollar to 3 dollars on pots in 1/3 2/5 cash games and tip 10 dollars if the pot is over 500. But somebody I personally know said there was a book saying that players should only tip 1-2 dollars to keep money flow in control.
Do you think tip of 1-2 dollars workable for any size pot? I'm also ...

On Session Swings
For about 2-3 years, I've been playing poker but I don't take things seriously. But just a week ago, I decided to make it as a viable source of income. At first, I started searching for a lot of infos, strategies, tips, etc. and eventually got the average hang of it.
Merely, I started with 50 euro in chips and then earned 25 from it in a certain 0.25/0.50 fixed game. And before quitting, total +20 euro. At some ...

Progress to Improvement
I've been studying the tricks of poker for about a month now. I have started playing in tourneys online with 35 - 40 man for $1. Of course, you have to start somewhere that's why I did played on those.
At first, I don't know what exactly to do. I barely last till the top half most of the time. But I never stopped. I looked for some books that could give me some strategies and my determination didn't ...

Am I an Unlucky Player?
Do you believe in unlucky players? Well, I am starting to actually believe that they really exist because of my past experiences.
One event I couldn't really get rid from my memory was my experience in a spread limit. I went there to play $2-5 last weekend hoping that I would win. But just after about 3 hours of playing I had the same player hit four of a kind on me and me ending up with Aces full ...

Card Trends
To be honest with you, I am new to poker. I am a neophyte in terms of skills and strategies. I've started playing just months ago, so I believe this is understandable. I have so many questions in mind as a neophyte or as a beginner and one of them is actually about folding beer hands.
Why is it whenever I fold beer hands I would've made trips on the flop or a two pair? At first, I thought I'm ...

Unorthodox Games
Just some months ago, I started playing poker. And just recently, I started reading some books and articles for self improvement.
Just an information, I only play online chip and some home games with several friends and the way we play seemed unorthodox. Typically, we play limit preflop and no limit postflop. Also, we don't go big blinds small blinds.
Any advice or pointers? Anything will be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Tyler

Boredom at the Table
I've been enjoying poker with a group of friends for about a year and a half now. In particular, we play Texas Hold em at least once a week with .50/$1.00 blinds. Typically, our games last around 4 hours or more.
One thing I noticed is that it's the same people who win, actually including me. But just recently, others who usually win started to play unusually and so I started to think whether or not I should also ...

On Good Hourly Rate
Hi!
Before anything, I would like to thank you again for all your help.
I have another question. I noticed that 3BB per hour is a good average, but is this something related to NL or limit holdem? Usually, I play .25/.50 and jump in .50/1.00 in all NL and my hour rate has been averaging around $13.00-$15.00 every hour. Any comment or the like about this?
Glad to hear from you soon. Thanks!
James

On Pro Games
Hello,
I have a question but I don't know if it will make a sense. This is actually about the hate email I saw from one guy. I'm not really affected by what he has expressed but it awakened the curiosity in me.
By next week, I am going to Vegas and as expected I will play 1-2 or 2-5 no limit there (as always). I am thinking of moving on to a higher limit but I am hesitant as I never ...

Cheating at the Table
Congratulations for having a great, helpful site!
I drop by to ask a question, something about cheating in a home game. In a certain game, one of the players was caught cheating several times. He was caught looking at the cards to come, switching his hand, moving flop cards around, even to the extent of merely rigging the deck. He usually plays and already been a friend to almost all of the players.
I have three questions about this cheating issue:
If you ...
