Shaun Deeb Quits Online Poker Tournaments
If you ever thought that the swings of online poker are something that professionals never go through and they just win and win forever then take heart from this article. After reading forum posts with quotes attributed to Shaun Deeb it appears that this Internet prodigy, who has made millions of dollars profit on the online poker tournament scene, is taking a break from tournaments after a string of below par results. Whilst the break is not thought to be permanent, the player is not playing in any online poker tournaments for the time being.
Playing a high volume of online poker games over and over will lead to burn out. Sportsman, particularly young sportsman, suffer from this all of the time and poker is no different.
In a forum post that was obviously written by a depressed Deeb he said, “yah Im burntout I hate them I’m done with them. I can’t win live everyone was always right I can’t win online I just ran good everyone was always right. I’m gunna take rest of year off….” Deeb plays between twenty and thirty online poker tournaments per day and doing this for a long period of time must create a feeling of missing out on other parts of life lost when sitting at his computer playing online poker. Particularly as he has enough money to enjoy his life he has decided to take a break. Playing that many online poker tournaments per day can lead to pretty big swings in bankroll if the big win takes its time in appearing.
Deeb later clarified his remarks by posting, “guys I’m not quitting poker Im quitting tourneys….I’ve lost all motivation and don’t see it coming back in a long time there’s little to gain from MTTs for me in the future at least life ev wise.” When I read about Shaun Deeb I always thought this guy was a freak of online poker. Anyone who can play each and every day in multiple online poker tournaments at a time without burning out must be crazy! Obviously he is human after all.
He will now take some time off and we expect will re-appear in the new year hopefully motivated again to hit the online poker tournament scene. Poker is a great game but played with the intensity and vigor that players of his ilk put into the game must cause a rebellion at some point. Your emotional state can very easily be linked to your online poker games performances if you do nothing but play online poker. A bad beat can feel a lot worse when you are already expecting it thinking that the world is out to get you. Deeb needs a break in order to develop a renewed sense of perspective towards online poker. But he is too good a player to turn away from what is a major source of income for him and as a young player he will find other avenues of income are probably harder to achiever for him than winning poker tournaments, an area in which he is obviously highly skilled.
Other poker players who have faced him in online poker tournaments will be pleased to see him go on poker vacation. The bwin poker blog gives details of the latest winners to gain seats into large live tournaments in bwinpoker.com hoping to break into the top echelon of poker tournaments like Shaun Deeb. They will be hoping to do better than Deeb who has vented his frustration also at his lack of a big live tournament win. Hopefully he will return to online poker and continue raising the bar for online poker tournament grinding.
