Strongest Ever WSOPE Main Event Final Table

He’s only gone and done it again! James Akenhead is second in chips for the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Even Europe, another fantastic achievement to go along with his forthcoming appearance at the main event proper next month. Everyone said that Ivan Demidov’s achievement last year would probably never be matched, but not only is Akenhead breaking records but Frenchman Antoine Saout has also managed to secure a final table spot also, making it two players to feature on both final tables of the main events, truly exceptional!

That is not all; the final table is littered with stories, records and amazing achievements. Firstly, here are the starting chip counts for the players for today’s final table, play begins at noon.

Seat 1: Barry Shulman – 1,090,000
Seat 2: Jason Mercier – 3,198,000
Seat 3: Praz Bansi – 1,160,000
Seat 4: Markus Ristola – 784,000
Seat 5: Chris Bjorin – 518,000
Seat 6: James Akenhead – 1,398,000
Seat 7: Daniel Negreanu – 438,000
Seat 8: Antoine Saout – 701,000
Seat 9: Matt Hawrilenko – 674,000

The hit squad have two members on the final table in James Akenhead and Praz Bansi which is a fabulous achievement for their poker group. Karl Mahrenholz also had a deep run in the event. Barry Shulman is the father of Jeff Shulman meaning that for the first time we have a father and son representation at the main events with Jeff in the November 9 and Barry featuring in the European final table.

Matt Hawrilenko makes his fourth final table appearance of the year and has graduated from being thought of as the top limit Holdem player in the world to one of the best poker players in the world, period. Daniel Negreanu makes the final table of the European main event for the second year running and is probably the most experienced player at the table. Chris Bjorin has two bracelets to his name already and Jason Mercier has been running over the table to amass a solid chip lead and is the player most fancied to go on and win it.

There were plenty of well-known players making notable runs who did not quite make it to the final table. Ex-Footballer Teddy Sheringham managed to finish in 14th place after a great run through the tournament gaining lots of praise for his play. He earned £40,481 for his efforts. Eric Liu was eliminated in the final table bubble in 10th place for £51,536. Texas Dolly Doyle Brunson was the popular choice for the bracelet but fell short in 17th place, shortly followed by Ram Vaswani in 15th place.

Dave “The Devilfish” Ulliott finished just into the money at 35th place, whilst WCOOP main event winner and WPT champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko finished in 25th place. Another great run for him. Other well-known players achieving cashes include Men the Master, Liz Lieu, John Kabbaj and Christian Harder. Whoever goes on to take this bracelet can be happy that they have beaten probably the strongest field in recent memory.
UK hopes rest with Akenhead and Bansi, whilst the US fans will be supporting Mercier, Negreanu and Shulman. Each player is guaranteed a minimum of £66,533 for reaching the final table and the winner takes home a nice £801,603. All the players will be eager to win this tournament as it carries a prestige of being a WSOPE main event bracelet.

I would say this is probably the most story filled and strong WSOP main event tables that we will see for years, but this was said last year and look what happens at this years final table, all the records are broken! I will say this will be a very entertaining day of poker with a worthy champion at the end. If the WSOPE continues to provide such excellent poker entertainment it will surely become one of the more popular tournaments on the poker circuit. Good luck to all.
