Prepare for Top Strategy Lessons From High Stakes Poker

The new series of High Stakes Poker is about to be recorded and we are always treated to amazing strategy sessions by the best players in the world, if the previous five seasons of the programme are anything to go by. Watching these players go at it is like having a demonstration with real money on exactly how the top players play online cash games. You know they are playing their best game, because the stakes involved are some of the biggest around. In the “Big Game” in Bobby’s Room in Vegas, No Limit Holdem is rarely played and when it is it is normally capped. This means High Stakes Poker is the best place to get modern cash game strategy from a table full of cash game pros. Utilising just some of the strategies will vastly improve your online poker game.

Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius are two of the most well-known cash game specialists in the game today of the new generation. These players do not play very much live cash under the watchful eye of the cameras. Getting to watch these two players is the best learning a new player can get. If an experienced player thinks they are too good to be shown new cash game ideas by these two players then they are simply delusional. They are the best around right now. Add Doyle Brunson, Mike Matusow and Daniel Negreanu to the fold and you have a show that really is required viewing to all poker players.

Fortunately the Internet comes to our rescue and we can watch the replays in HD via Pokertube.com. Pokertube is, as the name suggests, a YouTube for poker and along with user added content that is screened for quality purposes before being posted most of the good poker shows like Poker after Dark, Aussie Millions and other large tournament coverage shows are uploaded and viewers can stream them for free. This is fantastic for poker players as you can choose from a variety of poker shows to watch on demand right from your computer screen. Anytime you wish, albeit during the night or day, top poker shows are there to be watched, learned from and enjoyed. Being able to watch poker on demand is great news for me because I’m addicted to poker television shows!

Whilst the top players in this programme are showing us exactly how to play poker you must appreciate that their play is this format is against the best players for high stakes. Reproducing every single concept would be foolish in a lower stakes game where poker play is not nearly as sophisticated. Possibly due to the large stakes involved players prefer to play a post flop game and pot control is generally tight before the flop. Eli Elezra prefers to limp with a variety of cards before the flop probing away looking for a big and concealed hand post flop. Position is a massive part of the game in High Stakes Poker shows because the players are so good that the short term gain position brings is enough to give the players their only tangible advantage for that hand. But if we learn why they value it so much it can help our poker game improve. Watch everything they do and take notes, these players are demonstrating the poker skills that allowed them to sit with $500,000+ stacks on this show.

I cannot wait to start watching this season, the sixth so far. Players like Andrew Feldman, the first UK player to take part in the show, have joined the cast of players along with regulars like Daniel Negreanu and Tom Dwan. I’m sure the likes of David Benyamine and Patrik Antonius will also feature and give the quality of poker that we love to watch. Spot the fish at the table will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
