EPT Prague Results

EPT Prague Results10.0101

The European Poker Tour, or EPT as it is more commonly known, is the primary series of poker tournaments throughout Europe. Spanning most of the major cities across Europe visiting places like Vienna, London, Barcelona and most recently Prague there are beautiful places to visit for poker players and big money to be won. Many poker players use these events as holidays from the poker grind and the EPT definitely picks the best cities to host their prestigious poker tournaments.

As mentioned above, Prague was the most recent city to welcome the best poker tournament players from around Europe all hoping for that big score. The buy-in was 5000 Euros and as always a strong field assembled for the chance to win a life changing sum of money. 584 played this tournament from all around the world, making the first prize a lovely 682,000 Euros.

Eighty players cashed in the event with the eventual winner, Jan Skampa, collecting the 682,000 Euro prize which was a nice return for his five days of excellent poker playing. Well known European player Luca Pagano collected 100,000 Euros for a credible sixth place finish.

The heads up battle between eventual winner Jan Skampa and runner up Eyal Ativan, who took home 454,000 Euros was remembered for its tightness. Both players were seemingly very nervous playing for such big prizes and fell into a pattern of folding before the final hand unfolded when Ativan re-raised Skampa all-in with J9 and Skampa snap called with JJ. The board help up and Skampa was declared champion.

Luca Pagano, despite collecting 100,000 Euros with another big EPT final table appearance will be disappointed with this result. Why? Because in all of his other final table appearances he has failed to secure the championship title in all of them. He will hope that future final table appearances go more smoothly. Here, his final hand was strange given his tight image. He mis-read a three bet with AJ and shoved against third place finisher Stefan Mattson and was quickly called with QQ. They held and Pagano was eliminated from his seventh final table at the EPT.

Despite the relatively unknown nature of the final table there were many notable players in Day 1A who did not have success this time including double bracelet winner JP Kelly, Katja Thater and semi-retired tournament king Shaun Deeb who turned up to play and then did not even make it through the first level. He now embarks on a self-imposed break from tournament poker and the poker world hopes he returns very soon.

In Day 1B, Vitaly Lunkin, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier and Illari Sahamies got off to a good start but all failed to cash in this tournament. Elky in particular must be wondering what went wrong as he normally final tables every tournament he plays in at the moment.

The tournament, however, belongs to the champion Jan Skampa. He had form coming into the event with a 4th place finish at the EPT Vilamoura tournament only two weeks earlier which he collected $168,022. He also finished 12th in Event 22 at the World Series of Poker. Now he has broken through we can expect more appearances and more cashes by this emerging talented poker player.

We are sure that in 2010 James Akenhead will be playing in many of the European Events and will be a match for many of the European players. Has Elkys bubble burst after a great run of poker tournament success? The 2010 EPT will be full of big names and you can check this website out for all of the results as they come in.
