Moving on to a Better Place
Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest thanks for creating a site like this one. I really find this site helpful.
Before I lay down my questions, I would like first to introduce myself briefly. I’m 37 years old and with no kids. As of the moment, I’m living in Maryland and about to become separated. Even before, I can live anywhere as long as the place is close to any major airport because of my job. I’ve been playing poker for some time now, and that somehow affects my preference for where should I live. By the way, the nearest poker room to where I live now is in Atlantic City.
The reason why I actually visited your site is because of these three questions:
- For a year, I’ve been playing Texas Holdem on-line as well as in “live” games and tourneys for two. I never played because I wanted to become a professional poker player, but instead just a semi-professional one which means playing in several tourneys as well as cash games (2/4 NL and 5/10 to 10/20 limit) per week. By the way, I play much better in “live” games than on those on-line, therefore in a way I believe I should be near in a casino to be a “good” poker; coming from just being an average “solid” player.Any suggestion for somebody like me, has a job but wants to improve poker skills in “live” games which can only be found in casinos?
- When I was surfing the internet just days ago, I’ve found a listing of all U.S. casinos. I am wondering if there is a site or guide that lists U.S. poker rooms for I actually believe not all casinos have poker rooms.
- What advice can you give someone who is in the same situation I am into? When choosing a poker room, what what characteristics should I consider?
So far, Las Vegas is the place I am considering because of the good number of poker rooms available there. I think it would be a better place for me, but of course I’m not that sure.
Thanks for any advice or suggestion in advance.
Sam
Sam,
A lot of where you choose to live will depend on the cost of living etc. I would recommend three places.
- I would recommend you consider moving to either Atlantic City NJ, Tunica MS, or somewhere in the Los Angeles area. If you are more into tournaments than cash games, I would suggest Los Angeles. Also, in LA, you will find a better spread of games than in AC or Tunica.
- Pokerpages.com has a good listing of all the casinos with poker rooms. I use them a lot to lookup card rooms.
- When choosing a poker room, I would suggest looking for one that offers the limits that you want to play on a regular basis, one that offers a decent comp program, and one that has a well run poker room.
