Implied Odds

Implied Odds

Several poker books normally talk about odds that are commonly found in poker games for example, drawing odds, pot odds as well as implied odds. These poker books extensively discuss the various methods of calculating pot odds as well as drawing odds but they never do the same for implied odds.

Implied odds have a close link to pot odds only that it is a few steps ahead of the normal poker game. The other types of odds normally try to find out whether it would be logical to make a draw on the basis of the quantity of chips that are in the pot. Implied odds on the other hand, normally ask if it would be logical not only to draw chips that are currently in the pot but also chips that would be in the pot.

Implied odds normally require high level of logical thinking and reasoning. You have to predict with accuracy what your opponent’s next move will be. To successfully use implied odds, you have to be patient, analytical and skillful.

Experts believe that there is a substantial difference between players who play tight and others who play loose. This is where keen observation is critically necessary. Loose players have a tendency of calling; on the other hand tight players have a tendency of folding. The implication of this is that, while dealing with tight players you will have to make implied calls when drawing odds and pot odds are so close to one another.

The converse should hold true to loose players. When your pot odds are so far away from your drawing odds is when you should make your implied draws.

Since using implied odds require high level of skills, its success rates are so high. The success rates will continually remain high if you apply the fundamentals of implied odds to the latter. Otherwise, the application of implied odds will hugely backfire on you.

While using implied odds you should think in the long term. Implied odds are highly effective with long term objectives clearly in mind. The higher the return the riskier a project is. You should therefore minimize and manage the risks you are exposed to before trying out this method. Most poker game players miserably fail at risk analysis thus they lose miserably.

Mathematical calculations normally help an individual to make objective decisions. It also enhances logical thinking. To successfully use implied odds you need to understand how basic poker odds operate and how to accurately calculate them.

The advantage of implied odds is that it takes your thinking capacity a step further. It also makes you calculate to near accuracy whether you will make a profit, a loss or whether you will break even from a drawing out of the pot.

There is a very thin line between loose players and tight players. If you can accurately determine where one starts and the other ends the better for you. This is because; it might improve you chances of winning a Texas hold’em poker game.
