Folding to Successful Poker

Folding to Successful Poker10.0101

Poker is a game that offers a limited amount of must have requirements for a player to possess to be able to be successful, other factors can be either used or discarded dependent on the players preference and gaming style.

One of these must have skills is for a player to possess the ability to fold their hand. As weird as it sounds, the ability for a player to be able to fold their hand during a pot is key if they are to become a successful player.

Ok, i’m not saying that heading to the tables and folding every hand your dealt is going to magically increase your bankroll, instead i am pointing out that for a player to be able to fold a hand that they believe is beaten, even though it carries some form of strength, means that they are able to avoid getting into large wager situations when there is doubt in their mind.

Many poker players like to play as many hands as they can, finding that playing only the power hands is either less exciting as there is a lack of chance to bluff your opponent or if they were to be folding their hands on a regular basis they would lose concentration and their poker playing mindset.

The honest truth of the matter is that without being able to walk away from a hand when you think it is beaten will result in your bankroll taking a hard, sharp fall should your gut feeling be right. For example, if you were holding pocket aces but there were three or four cards on the community board that were suited and of a suit that your not holding, okay you had the strongest possible starting hand but you have to think about the way that your opponents have been playing, could they be playing a flush? Making a move to show that you are holding the best hand here when you can clearly see that there is a huge chance that your opponent is holding at least one or both cards of the same suit as the three or four on the community board.

Success within the game of poker is down to the player and their approach to each situation that they are placed in with each card that is dealt, failure to get out of a situation that proves costly at an early stage is exactly why you have found that your funds are looking either diminished or completely empty.

Approach the game with a good strategy and look to play good quality, tight poker. We know that the draw of the game is to be able to make a life changing sum of money while doing something that you enjoy but to do that you don’t have to be an aggressive player, just a successful one.

In the instance of poker, going backwards is definitely best for coming forwards, giving you time to think about your play as well as keeping you out of those situations that could ultimately cost your either your chipstack or your life within a poker tournament.
