Boredom at the Table

I’ve been enjoying poker with a group of friends for about a year and a half now. In particular, we play Texas Hold em at least once a week with .50/$1.00 blinds. Typically, our games last around 4 hours or more.

One thing I noticed is that it’s the same people who win, actually including me. But just recently, others who usually win started to play unusually and so I started to think whether or not I should also change my playing styles just like what those players did.

Typically, I play loosely but not dumbly, I will raise with good hands but also take my chances on some poor or mediocre hands, etc. And fortunately, I usually win because maybe of how I play. But so far, I am also becoming bored every time I’m seated on the table. Sometimes, me being bored is also being taken advantage of some other players.

I’m wondering if you could help me with this. Any tips or suggestion whether or not I should finally change the way I play? Take note, I typically play with the same set of people almost every time.

Thanks in advance!
Hayden

Hayden,

You will want to mix up your play a bit but don’t get too silly. Chances are they aren’t really changing their game all that much. Usually in home games, the same type of style will be a long term winner. If you start experiencing losses, then start working on mixing up your game a bit.

As far as boredom at the table, you may want to do some things to keep your mind in the game. This includes taking notes, trying to focus on every hand played, or even trying to play a game with yourself to guess the other player’s cards.
