Variations of Texas Holdem
Texas Hold’em is a very popular game as it’s played all around the world. It has gained popularity as it’s a fun-packed game that gets very interesting as the time passes.
A number of people play Texas Hold’em to kill their time whereas playing Texas Hold’em has become a hobby for some. Over the time, three exciting variations of the Texas Hold’em have emerged and their betting limits distinguish them from each other.
The three variations of Texas Hold’em are –
- Limit Texas Hold’emIn limit Texas Hold’em, each player is allowed a maximum of four bets during a betting round. A betting round includes a bet, raise, a re-raise, and a cap i.e. the final raise.
A limit Texas Hold’em has a limit on the number of raises a player can make during the game so a player needs to play strategically in order to use the limited number of raises effectively. Also, a player can raise only in defined increments which are generally related to the size of the big blind.
- No Limit Texas Hold’emUnlike limit Texas Hold’em, there is no limit on the number of raises a player can make while playing the no limit Texas Hold’em. However, the amount of minimum raise must be more than or equal to the previous raise or the previous bet in the same round.
So, if a player bets $5 then the next player must raise a bet equal to or more than $5. The amount of the maximum raise depends on the size of the stack and a player can use all of his chips at once.
- Pot Limit Texas Hold’emLike no limit Texas Hold’em, there is no limit on the number of raises a player can make during the game. However, the amount of the maximum raise is determined by the size of the pot as it cannot exceed the size of the pot.
The size of the pot is defined as the total of the active pot added to all the bets on the table along with the amount the active player must first call before raising. The minimum amount of the raise must be at least as much as the previous raise or bet in the same round.
So while there is no limit on the increments, there is a minimum and a maximum limit for the bet.
All the three variations of Texas Hold’em differ from each other on the basis of their betting limits and all the three games have gained popularity among poker players because of the excitement they offer to the players.
Each game requires in-depth knowledge of rules in order to dominate the game and it takes time to master a particular game but it’s worth it as all the games are pretty exciting.
